Low-MEK CIJ Inks: A Cleaner, Compliant Coding Solution

At Cyklop Needham, we’ve expanded our portfolio with a versatile range of low-MEK continuous inkjet (CIJ) inks, formulated with less than 70% MEK to deliver high-quality, long-lasting coding while reducing environmental impact.

Our low-MEK inks are compatible with any CIJ printer and are ideal for businesses seeking reduced VOCs, less solvent handling, and improved import flexibility—especially in countries with MEK restrictions.

What Is MEK?

Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is a fast-evaporating solvent commonly used in industrial inks. While effective for drying, it’s classed as a VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) and is often regulated due to environmental and health considerations.

Key Benefits of Low-MEK CIJ Inks

🌱 Reduced Solvent Consumption & VOC Emissions

Less MEK means a cleaner, more sustainable operation with reduced environmental impact and fewer odours in production areas.

🧴 Lower User Interventions

With less solvent volatility, refills are needed less frequently—saving time and reducing line disruptions.

✅ Excellent Substrate Adhesion

Formulated to perform on packaging used in:

  • Food and Beverage

  • Pharmaceutical

  • Cosmetic industries

🌍 Easier International Distribution

Our low-MEK formulations help distributors and end users avoid import restrictions, customs delays, and the need for special permits in regulated regions.

Available Inks and Colours

Our low-MEK range includes the following colours:

  • Black

  • White

  • Yellow

  • Red

  • Blue

Need something more specific? Custom colours and formulation matching are available on request.

All inks are supplied in OEM-compatible bottles to ensure seamless integration with your existing CIJ printers—no confusion, no reconfiguration required.

Applications of Low-MEK CIJ Inks

These inks offer the same versatility as standard MEK-based inks and are used for marking:

  • Aluminium & PET caps

  • HDPE/PE/PET tubes, jars & containers

  • Blisters & flexible packaging

  • Spray bottles & aerosols

  • Glass vials, jars & bottles

  • Face masks & pharma pouches

Ideal for both primary and secondary packaging, these inks deliver long-lasting, legible codes even on challenging surfaces.

Where Are These Inks Made?

All of our inks and make-up fluids are manufactured in the UK, at our dedicated facility in Whitchurch, Shropshire, with R&D handled in Newquay, Cornwall.
