Quality Assurance
Precision Tested, Performance Guaranteed.
With over 60 years of ink development and manufacturing experience, our broad range of inks are used throughout the globe in many industries. Each of our inks is rigorously tested to ensure the highest quality product leaves our facility every time. Our team of chemists, based in our research lab in Whitchurch (UK) ensure that each ink product that we produce can deliver unparalleled performance.

Rigorous Testing
Our Quality Assurance process checks six key properties of the ink we manufacture.
Viscosity
Viscosity measures the thickness or flow resistance of ink. Low viscosity allows ink to flow easily, while high viscosity makes it sticky and slow-moving. It’s measured in Centipoise (cP) and depends on the intended use and printing process. We test viscosity by warming ink to a set temperature to ensure accurate and consistent results.
Surface Tension
Surface tension determines the shape of ink droplets and how they interact with surfaces. It’s created by intermolecular forces at the ink’s surface. We use a Surface Tensiometer to measure it, ensuring consistent print performance. Surface tension is measured in units called Dynes.
Colour
Ink colour is tested to ensure accuracy and consistency across batches. Using a Spectrometer, we measure the colour in CIELAB values. A ‘drawdown’ test also checks for contaminants and vibrancy by pressing ink onto a flat surface. This guarantees precise colour reproduction.
Specific Gravity
Specific gravity measures ink density to confirm accurate chemical ratios in production. Using a hydrometer, we determine how far the device sinks in the ink. This ensures proper mixing of components and consistent ink quality. Accurate specific gravity is key for performance.
pH
pH measures ink acidity or alkalinity, critical for maintaining pigment stability in water-based inks. Improper pH can cause pigments to settle, affecting colour and performance. We use a pH meter to ensure optimal stability and print interaction for consistent results.
Conductivity
Conductivity determines ink’s ability to carry an electrical charge, essential for continuous inkjet printing. It’s measured in Siemens per metre using a conductivity meter. Conductive ink ensures droplets can carry charges, enabling reliable printer operation.
