Combatting the rising cost of corrugated cardboard

Combatting the rising cost of corrugated cardboard

As industries emerge from an unprecedented economic situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there are predictions of price inflation across the board coming in future months.

There are already some industries that are already seeing the pressures on raw materials, transport and increased demand. One of these industries is the packaging industry and the increasing cost of corrugated cardboard. One of the easiest ways of reducing costs is going straight to the source and buying blank corrugated cardboard and printing the information you need on them on your current packaging line.

The GraphicJet X72 can print text, barcodes and alphanumerics up to 72mm with a 180DPI integrating into your existing manufacturing line. Instead of being restricted on price by buying pre-printed boxes, installing a GraphicJet X72 can save your business money and allow you to print the information you require straight onto your packaging.GraphicJet

Why is the cost of cardboard rising?

UK box plant lead times remain extended compared to what is normally expected in Q1, February would typically see lead times of 4-5 days, however, in today's market, this has extended to circa 30 days. In 2020 there were five billion parcel shipments in the UK (a 33% increase from the previous year). The push to minimise plastic packaging and the demands of eCommerce in recent years have also significantly driven demand for corrugated cardboard.

Why chose the GraphicJet X72?

Hi-Resolution Piezo printers with enclosed ink systems like bottles, cans or containers are very sensitive to atmospheric changes. If for example the ambient temperature changes as much as a few degrees immediately pressure differences will build up in the ink compartment. As a result, the printer will leak or, in the opposite case, starve the print-head from ink. As the GraphicJet system is open, the internal pressure will always be equal to the external environment. This makes the printer totally impervious from its surrounding conditions, no matter harsh or abruptly changing these are.

The open and non-pressurized ink-tank is in direct capillary connection with the print-head. This allows the head itself to pull the exact amount of needed ink directly from the tank. Not only are pumps and valves expensive, but they are also maintenance-sensitive moving parts that wear out. Not needing them makes the printer cheaper, completely maintenance-free, but more importantly, gives it unprecedented reliability.
