This guide explains which filters your CIJ printer uses, when to replace them, and how regular filter maintenance prevents downtime and poor print quality.
Why filter maintenance matters
Filters keep ink clean and flowing correctly. Over time, they clog with pigment or dried solvent. Ignoring them leads to pressure faults, poor drop formation, and eventually full system failure.
Types of filters in the CM750 & when to change them
Filter | Location | Replace Every | Symptoms of Clogging |
---|---|---|---|
Main filter | Ink system block | 2,000–3,000 hrs | Pressure instability, ink starvation |
Nozzle filter | Inside printhead | 1,000–2,000 hrs | Stream break-up, charge faults |
Pre-head filter | Before head umbilical | 1,500 hrs | Delayed ink start-up |
Note: Service intervals may vary based on ink type, usage, and environment.
How to replace filters safely
-
Power down the printer
-
Use PPE and proper solvent handling procedures
-
Remove tubing clamps and extract filter unit
-
Flush the system if ink contamination is present
-
Replace with Needham-approved parts only
-
Restart printer and run Fill Mixer or Clean Ink System
Tips to maximise filter life
-
Run Drain and Flush before extended shutdowns
-
Store ink and solvent in temperature-stable areas
-
Never mix fluid brands or types
-
Keep the printer enclosure dust-free
