Foaming ink creates instability and can signal serious fluid system issues. Here’s what to check.
What’s normal?
A stable CIJ system returns fluid to the tank in a smooth, continuous flow. Foam, frothing, or air bubbles are warning signs.
Common causes of foaming
Cause | Fix |
---|---|
Air leak in return line | Tighten or replace tubing/fittings |
Incorrect solvent mix | Flush system and refill with approved fluids |
Over-agitation | Reduce pressure if above spec |
Ink degradation (expired or contaminated) | Replace ink and run Clean Ink System |
Incompatible cleaning agent used | Flush and refill with correct solvent |
How to fix it
-
Inspect for cracked or loose tubing
-
Check tank seals and tank vent
-
Run Fill Mixer and observe return flow
-
If foaming persists, replace fluid and filters
