How do I connect the CM750 to a PLC or SCADA system?

Use this guide to set up serial communication between your CM750 and your PLC, SCADA, or factory automation system.

Why connect your printer to a PLC?

  • Centralised control of print start/stop

  • Real-time message switching

  • Integration with inspection or reject systems

  • Automated logging of print events

CM750 connection methods

  • RS232 (most common for basic serial comms)

  • RS485 (for longer-distance or multi-device networks)

  • Ethernet (via serial-to-IP converters) – optional

Setup steps

  1. Connect CM750 via DB9 serial port to PLC’s COM port

  2. On CM750, go to System > Communications > Serial

  3. Match baud rate, parity, data bits, and stop bits

  4. Enable Host Communication Mode

  5. Use supported commands from the protocol (e.g. PRINT 001, STOP, MSG 02)

Pro tip:

Use a null modem adapter if direct PC-to-printer serial connection fails.
