CIJ |
Continuous Inkjet – a high-speed printing method where ink is continuously expelled and selectively deflected to form characters |
Breakoff |
The point at which the ink stream breaks into droplets — essential for accurate charging and deflection |
Charge Electrode |
A small component that applies voltage to each droplet so it can be deflected correctly |
Deflector Plates |
High-voltage plates that steer charged ink droplets into position to form characters |
EHT |
Extra High Tension — refers to the high voltage system in the printhead that powers the charge and deflection system |
Gutter |
A return channel that collects uncharged ink droplets and recycles them into the system |
Viscosity |
The thickness or resistance to flow of the ink; controlled by the printer through makeup solvent addition |
VMS |
Viscosity Monitoring System — automatically checks and adjusts ink viscosity |
Trigger Mode |
The setting that tells the printer when to start printing (e.g. via photocell, encoder, or continuous) |
Blocking Time |
A pause after each trigger to prevent duplicate prints on the same product |
Photocell |
A light sensor used to detect when a product is in position for printing |
Encoder |
A rotary sensor that tracks conveyor speed and adjusts print timing accordingly |
Restrictor |
A precision orifice that regulates ink pressure and stream shape before breakoff |
Umbilical |
The flexible cable bundle that connects the printhead to the printer body, carrying fluids and power |
Clean Ink System |
A full flush routine that removes old or contaminated ink and resets the system |
Fill Mixer |
A maintenance function that primes the ink system with the correct solvent/ink mix |
Park Routine |
Safely prepares the system for shutdown by draining and sealing critical components |
Firmware |
The internal software that runs the printer’s logic and controls functions |
Message |
A saved print template that may contain text, dates, counters, barcodes, or logos |
Field (Variable) |
A placeholder in a message that updates per print — e.g., batch number or serial code |
